National Food Celebration Day Calendar Full-Year View
November 12, 2018Site Notes
The new "Year Long View" page for the Digital Food Works National Food Celebrations Day Calendar has been turned on. Yay!!!
Oh, you can run all the tests you want — but you never
really know if something is going to work the way you planned, until you turn it on, and let it run for a while.
Programmed from the ground up, the calendar API that I wrote forever ago, wasn't really built for this purpose, but I modified it to fit, and everything seems to be going well. Yay!
Truth be told, I didn't have the "whole" year programmed when I turned on the two-month view. I was optimistically attempting to beat the "next month" view just before the current month ended. But, deep breath, it's all in there now — which also means I can turn on another page — the Full-Year View page!
Both the Two-Month view and the Full-Year view pages can be found under the "Contact & More" main menu item. This new Full-Year view page has no ads on it anywhere. There are 365 events that have to load, so while I wouldn't mind having an ad somewhere, it would just slow down an already load-heavy page. Even on my little business site here, user experience is very important.
The Full-Year view page also shows "month long" celebration days — but they are at the top of each month (as opposed to being in the side bar area of the Two-Month view page).
Just like on the Two-Month page — clicking on any title, day name, or icon will open up a new window that automatically does a Google search on that food celebration day! So if you want to know more about "Baklava Day" — just click on the name or icon and a new tab will open with all the search results from Google!
If you happen to see any dates that are not where they're supposed to be — or know of any food celebration days that aren't on the schedule yet — please… just let me know!
